A 40-day devotional created especially to accompany our 40 Days of Hospitality Journey
A 40‑day journey of learning to make room for others as Christ has made room for us. Throughout September and October, SBC will be exploring what it means to practise hospitality — not simply as something we do, but as a way of life shaped by the gospel.

The 40‑Day Devotional Book

This resource has been created to help us journey together in hospitality and faith. We can’t wait to share it with you.

Our 40‑day devotional runs through September and October, and it’s a wonderful opportunity to share the journey with others — studying God’s word, praying together, and encouraging one another.
And what better way to do that than through a Life Group?
Life Groups give you a place to grow, connect, and walk these 40 days alongside others. You can join a group by using the QR code, clicking the "sign up" button or signing up via the sheet in the Atrium.

Sermon Series
Throughout September and October, we’re journeying together through a six‑week teaching series exploring God’s heart for hospitality — the welcome He extends to us, and the welcome we extend to others. Each week focuses on a different aspect of biblical hospitality, rooted in Scripture and shaped by the Way of Welcome devotional.

WEEK 1 — GOD THE WELCOMING HOST
Sunday 20 September
Theme: The God who makes room Hospitality is at the very heart of God’s character — from creation to new creation, He is the One who invites, gathers, and makes space for His people.
Primary Text: Isaiah 25:6–9 (With supporting passages: Genesis 1–2; Ephesians 2:11–22; Revelation 21:1–5)

WEEK 2 — MEALS WITH JESUS
Sunday 27 September
Theme: Jesus at the Table Jesus’ ministry is filled with meals — moments where welcome becomes mission, and the table becomes a place of grace, challenge, and transformation.
Primary Texts: Luke 14:1–14; Luke 7:36–50

WEEK 3 — MEAL STORIES JESUS TOLD
Sunday 4 October
Theme: The Kingdom’s Invitation Jesus’ parables about banquets reveal the radical welcome of God’s Kingdom — a feast open to those who never expected an invitation.
Primary Text: Luke 14:15–24

WEEK 4 — THE EARLY CHURCH: A HOSPITABLE COMMUNITY
Sunday 11 October
Theme: A Spirit‑Filled Community Hospitality is not an optional extra for the Church — it is the Spirit‑shaped life of believers who share, gather, eat, pray, and grow together.
Primary Text: Acts 2:42–47

WEEK 5 — THE HEART OF HOSPITALITY
Sunday 18 October
Theme: One New Family The gospel breaks down barriers. In Christ, strangers become family — and hospitality becomes a way of living out reconciliation and unity.
Primary Text: Acts 10:1–48

WEEK 6 — THE FUTURE AT THE TABLE
Sunday 25 October
Theme: Hospitality shaped by hope Scripture ends with a feast — the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. Our hospitality today is shaped by the hope of the welcome God will one day extend to all His people.
Primary Text: Revelation 19:6–9
