Welcome to the Big Summer Community Week Staff & Volunteer Hub. This page is a private, behind‑the‑scenes space created to keep our team updated with the latest information, guidance, and resources for running the week smoothly.

Everything you’ll need — from daily briefings and schedule changes to practical instructions and important notices — will be posted here. If you’re serving during Big Community Week, this is your first point of reference.

Please check back regularly, as details may be updated throughout the week.

Thank you for giving your time, energy, and heart to make this week happen. We couldn’t do it without you.

Fourth Update

The excitement is building for the start of our Big Summer Community Week on Monday.  We gave out loads of fliers on the Common last Sunday and emailed all the primary schools in Streatham and got many encouraging responses and Sonia has had children booking in to the kids' clubs.

Tomorrow (Thursday) we have a special Connect Prayer meeting at SBC which will focus on the BSCW. Its 7.45pm till 9.00pm so please come along if you can!

SUNDAY SET UP

On Sunday after the church service we would really love the help of anyone who can assist the team with moving chairs, sofas and tables and setting up the sanctuary, atrium and hall ready for the Monday. If you can give any time between 12.30 and 1.30pm it would be massively appreciated!

Final Update for BSCW 2026

Dear fantastic SBC volunteer,

Thank you so much for all the time, energy and love (and cake making), as well as planning, flexibility, welcome, prayer and creativity that you put into SBC's first ever Big Summer Community Week last week.

We were both blown away by people's response to the idea and the way so many gave up time and holiday to make it happen.  If you have not seen the film, you can access it here: SBC Community Week 2026

Some of our highlights:

  • Fantastic volunteer team of more than 100 volunteers

  • Community members coming and enjoying hospitality and workshops and childrens’ clubs

  • People accepting prayer from our outreach team on the high road and from prayer team in the building

  • 35 in baking biscuits/fondant flowers and 24 in muffin bake off!

  • Smaller numbers but deep engagement in bespoke workshops: nutrition, capsule wardrobe, gardening, helping others and music recording

  • Big lunch fed 60-100 every day

  • SBC teenagers getting involved and wanting to come back and give more time

  • Donations for cafe, Big Lunch and T-shirts came to over £2300 which has meant that almost all the costs were covered.

  • God’s blessing on the whole week, he kept bringing along extra volunteers and gave us strength and energy!

We wanted to say a huge thanks to everyone and especially the Team Leaders: Louise, Sonia, Paakow, Bruce, Karen, Jackie D, Rebecca, Vanessa and Michelle. Big thanks to Bob, Naomi, Daniel and Oliver for their great help too. Thanks too to Jackie R, Josephine and Sue for their Safeguarding expertise too.

We want to gather your feedback while its still fresh so please take 4 minutes to complete this form:

SBC Big Summer Community Week: feedback – Fill in form

If you have younger people in your family who volunteered PLEASE ask them to complete a feedback form too!  We would LOVE to have feedback from the brilliant teenagers who helped!

Let's see where God takes us on our journey as a community serving our local community!

Thanks again and have a brilliant rest of the summer,

Jon and Nikki

Second Update

Hi all,

'Out of action' email

Unfortunately, the email address we set up for the week has been temporarily suspended as our activity (emailing so many new volunteers all at once) looks suspicious to Google. Sorry if you have sent an email and it bounced back. For the meantime, please use this personal email if you need to email me. Alternatively, whatsapp me on 07866 551509.

T-shirt sizes

If you have already emailed me your preferred T shirt size and if you have received a reply from us saying 'thanks and noted', please ignore this.

If you haven't sent a T shirt size, please do.

If you have sent it to us, but haven't received a reply, please could you send it again.

We hope to order them this Friday.

Many thanks and sorry for any inconvenience,

Nikki and Jon

Our First Update

Firstly, thanks for getting involved in the Big Summer Community Week. Its going to be lots of fun. We have over 90 volunteers signed up!

This email has some really important information so please take time to read it, but the KEY messages are:

1)      All volunteers need to attend a Safeguarding briefing - either in person on Sunday 5th July from 12.30-1.15pm or online on Wednesday 8th July from 8-8.45pm (on SBC zoom via website). Please let Nikki know if you cannot make either date by replying to this email.

2)      We are having SBC ‘Community Volunteer’ t-shirts made which we want all volunteers to wear during the week and which will be able to be used at future events too. Please confirm 2 things:

          a.      What size you would want: XS, S, M, L, XL, XXL

          b.      Could you pay £10 to cover the cost and keep your own t-shirt

We will send out further emails about once a week as we approach the Big Summer Community Week but do come back to us if you have any questions.

See below briefing attached as a PDF.

Thanks,

Jon and Nikki
