Pastoral Volunteer and Hospital Chaplain

John Ojo

Pastoral Volunteer and Hospital Chaplain

John visits members and friends of SBC who are unable to come to the building in person and he has extensive experience supporting those in hospital and their friends and family.

John has worked as a hospital chaplain in several London hospitals. He lives in central Streatham with his wife and three children.

"The journey through the hospital tends to be a very lonely journey for a lot of the patients. Many have their loved ones in distant places and they are not able to visit them while in the hospital. As a chaplain in the hospital, my role offers the opportunity to walk alongside the patients to offer non-judgemental listening ears. Being empathetic is key to my role as hospital chaplain. I am passionate about being part of patients' journey in providing pastoral, spiritual and religious support, as they navigate through the processes of various health challenges. The skills that I have acquired from being hospital chaplain have proven valuable in serving as part of the pastoral care team in our local church, SBC. It has really been a privilege serving in this role"
